ABOUT THE COURSE

Shalford Park is a beautiful riverside park on the outskirts of Guildford, running along the River Wey. It can be easily reached from Woking, Farnborough, Farnham, Leatherhead, Aldershot and Weybridge. With a mixture of open grassland and riverside this beautiful park is the perfect place for a diverse range of edible wild foods to flourish.

We will meet at the car park. The course starts with a short introduction on what to look for, our foraging code and a brief of the Countryside Act, where it relates to foraging.

Then we’ll set off on a roughly 2.5 hour walk around the park teaching you how to identify the different plants, flowers, fruits and mushrooms that we find.

We will stop along the way for some seasonal homemade refreshments such as our lovely hogweed and wild garlic soup, elderflower champagne or fruit leathers.

After the walk we will end the day with a tasty wild food lunch based on what we have found. All of our food is seasonal so what we make depends on recent weather and what is around at that time of year. In spring we will be making use of the fresh wild greens and in summer the wild fruits and mushrooms that the park has to offer.

After the course, we will email you a list of everything we talk about on the day to help you to remember what you have learnt.

WHERE TO MEET

At the Shalford Park Car Park.

The meeting point is about a mile walk from Guildford train station.

When the football is on it can be difficult to find a space in the main car park. If you are unable to get a space here then there are the following options:

You can park along the road by St Mary’s Church (this is the road leading up to Shalford Thames water plant), or you can park in the church car park.

If you park by the church then you can follow the Dagley Lane footpath up to the Shalford Park car park.
