ABOUT THE COURSE

These foraging courses will take you around the country lanes and adjoining fields, within the pretty village of Almeley, just a stone’s throw from Kington, Weobley and Eardisley. Amongst the hedgerows and meadows here, we will find a good variety of the best wild edibles that grow in through the seasons.
Easily accessible from Leominster, Ludlow, Hereford and Hay-on-Wye.

We’ll meet with you at the heart of the village; The Bells Inn, where you can purchase a refreshment to enjoy whilst introductions and a brief agenda takes place with your instructor.

The course starts with a short introduction on what to look for, our foraging code and a brief of the Countryside Act, where it relates to foraging. We’ll set off on a roughly 2.5 hour walk around the local area, teaching you how to identify the different plants, flowers, fruits and mushrooms that we find.

We will stop along the way for a seasonal homemade refreshment, such as our lovely hogweed and wild garlic soup, elderflower champagne, fruit leathers or a warming wild mushroom soup.

After the walk we will end the day with a tasty wild food lunch based on what we have found. All of our food is seasonal, so what you are served depends on the recent weather and what is around at that time of year. In Spring we will be making use of the fresh wild greens and in Autumn, the array of tasty wild mushrooms that we find.

You will receive a comprehensive set of Wild Food UK ‘course notes’ a few days after your course. This email will contain links and articles relating to the plants and mushrooms we discovered, or discussed during the day.
