ABOUT THE COURSE

Our Field Mycology courses are designed to teach you how to correctly identify a wide variety of fungi in the field, whether they are edible, inedible or poisonous.

These will include polypores, crusts and ‘little brown mushrooms’ plus many other fascinating species, for which we will be using reference books and performing various chemical tests.

These courses will be hosted by a leading Mycologist, plus one of our fabulous Wild Food UK foraging instructors! They will meet with you at 11am, 12pm or 1pm (check specific course venue for timings) and begin with a talk on the rules of foraging, and how to correctly collect the specimens.

You will then set off at a steady pace for around 2.5hrs, learning about and collecting some of what you find.

You’ll stop for a wild food late lunch that has been prepared by the foraging instructor. This will be followed by a detailed identification of the various species collected on the walk, where you will be taught how to identify species that are more unusual than the mushrooms foragers normally collect.

You will receive a comprehensive set of Wild Food UK ‘course notes’ a few days after your course. This email will include detailed information relating to the varied species of fungi discovered, or discussed during the day.

This is a specialist Field Mycology and Mushroom Foraging Course. The course is perhaps more suited to people who already have experience in identifying mushrooms, rather than novices. Not suitable for children under 12 years.

Please note approximate finish time may run over depending on circumstances during the day.
