Charles Dooner –
Got my book delivered to myself here in Ireland, have to say I’m so happy with it. Its well written and the coloured pictures make it easier to identify spices. Only have it a couple of days and already learning stuff I didn’t know I could eat right on my doorstep. Thanks Guys you’re the best and simplest foraging guide on the interweb. Happy foraging. Charles in Ireland.
P. S I would recommend this book to all, foragers and non foragers alike.
Simon Ashmore –
Picked my book up after the end of a foraging course run by Phil from Wild Food UK. The book is an extension and reminder of the knowledge gained. A great book for foragers new and experienced. So simple yet informative.

This is just excellent. Everything is clearly explained and well illustrated. The size is perfect too. An ideal book to take on any foraging trip.

Amazing pocket guide, after taking the course last year i was eagerly waiting for it to come out. I take it with me for walks and recognize more and more spieces each time.

Great little book – punches well above its weight. Each entry is thoughtful and concise with just the right amount of information.
Robustly bound, it fits nicely into the hand and the pocket. Reasonably priced and destined to become a foraging classic. Brilliant.
Robert Johnson (verified owner) –
This little book is a gold mine of information on both mushroom identification and other foraged foods. It is clear concise and useful,
The photography is first rate and itβs written in a none judgemental manner which makes you confident in the information it imparts.
Well done

A Foraging book, written by two very enthusiastic foragers (long overdue)
You can never have too much information on gathering Mushrooms.
A very handy reference guide,to compliment my many other ‘Fungi Finding’books.
Chris Carter (verified owner) –
I’ve been foraging for years its nice and compact the phot’s and discripion is fantastic no matter how experianced its a great addition to any library.

My book arrived today thank you and i am so so pleased with it. It is easy to use, the photos are awesome to help ID, it just covers so much of what you need to know, especially when your out foraging. This will definitely be one of my favourite books and will get used on my daily walks Thanks .

I have just finished reading my copy, and have ordered another now for a friend. Mushroom heavy, but plenty for those not brave enough to risk picking mushrooms unescorted. Useful on things to avoid as well as things to gather. The descriptions are clear and unambiguous.
The photos are first class, though on occasion I struggled with the scale. Something like a daisy at the same scale (including the entry on the daisy!) would help. A useful reminder too of the importance still of hard copy. Out foraging, can one rely on the electronic gizmo in your pocket?
I would have liked a few more hints on preparation and cooking – but maybe that will be next year’s treat? Please!
A useful successor to my 1970s copy of ‘Food For Free’, which wore out a while ago, and is not as confidence building…
Poppy Ives –
Hi Martin and Mary. Thanks very much for the review.
The recipe book is in production π We originally had included recipes and preparation tips in this one, but wanted this book to fit in a large pocket and there simply wasn’t space.

Excellent book. Bit bigger than I was expecting. Not trouser pocket sized, more farmers jacket pocket.
This book has far more edibles listed than my go-to pocket guide (Food for Free) and the photos are great. Good close up examples of particular ID features. Much easier to use than botanical drawings.
More than half of the book seems to be dedicated to fungi too, so no need to carry around two seperate books for field references.
All in all, a very useful book and even contains many edibles that are not covered in either Food for Free or River Cottage Hedgerow

A super book. I bought one for myself and 2 as presents. The recipients were thrilled.
Karen Flynn (verified owner) –
I take this book out on every walk. Small enough for my little bag. Has helped me identify lots of edibles. Nice photos too
Sonny Fish (verified owner) –
Great book full of useful knowledge for the Great Outdoors! The book looked smaller in the picture but is still a small book though. I would like to see hardback and ebook editions released to add to my collection! I don’t think your collection is complete until you have all three versions π
stacey –
Best foraging book I own !! Detailed pictures and very informative. Thank you.
Richard Booth’s Bookshop, Hay-on-Wye –
This is a very well-illustrated and genuinely useful guide to foraging in the UK. With sections on trees and plants, the book is especially good on mushrooms and fungus.

An absolute gem for those who enjoy the outdoors and/or cooking. Great levels of detail – cooking ideas, medicinal usages, common (especially for poisonous counterparts) look-a-likes, historical tidbits as well as precautions, season, habitats and flavour. The well-written informational pieces are accompanied by gorgeous photos, many featuring indicators to certain parts of the flora or fungi in question, other varieties, or the different stages of life. All this comes in a conveniently sized guide which is going to be in the pack of every walk I go on in the future.
