ABOUT THE COURSE
Warlingham is our original venue and it’s still one of the best, all year round! Its various woodlands, commons, verges and hedgerows provide almost everything we look for at any time of the year, including one of the widest selections of fungi we find anywhere.
It is on the outskirts of London, still within the M25 and can be reached easily from Croydon, Sevenoaks, Reigate, Bromley and Tonbridge.
We will meet at the Harrow, a welcoming pub with a country feel and a lovely beer garden. The course starts there with a short introduction on what to look for and a brief of the general countryside codes, where they relate to foragers. Drinks are available from the pub.
Then we’ll set off on a roughly 2.5 hour walk around Farleigh Common and the surrounding area, teaching you how to identify the different plants, flowers, fruits and mushrooms that we find.
We will stop along the way for some seasonal homemade refreshments such as our lovely hogweed and wild garlic soup, elderflower champagne or fruit leathers.
After the walk we will head back to the Harrow for a tasty wild food lunch based on what we have found. All of our food is seasonal so what we make depends on recent weather and what is around at that time of year. In spring we will be making use of the wild garlic and in autumn the array of tasty wild mushrooms that we find.
After the course we will email you a list of everything we talk about on the day; to help you remember what you have learnt.
