ABOUT THE COURSE
The Glynhir Estate is a beautiful rustic 18th Century estate, set in the stunning Welsh countryside. Located on the outskirts of Llandybie, it’s within easy reach of Ammanford, Llanelli, Carmarthen, Ystradgynlais, Swansea and Port Talbot.
The estate’s idyllic 220 acres on a gorge at the foot of the Black Mountain comprises lush grassland, woodland and riverside; it even has an impressive 30ft waterfall! This makes it plentiful in wild plant, flower and mushroom species throughout the year. We visited the Glynhir Estate in early September last year and found probably the best haul of chanterelles, hedgehog fungus and giant Porcinis of the year! We’re hoping the weather will deliver the same abundance this year.
The course starts with a short introduction on what to look for and a brief of the general countryside codes, where they relate to foragers.
Then we’ll set off on a roughly 2.5 hour walk around the vast grounds and along the River Loughor, teaching you how to identify the different plants, flowers, fruits and mushrooms that we find.
There will be a break along the way for some homemade refreshments such as our lovely wild mushroom soup and elderflower champagne.
After the walk we will end the day with a tasty wild food lunch based on what we have found. This will include some treats made from our recent finds, a wild salad that we will pick on the day, our wild mushroom pate, possibly some pickled chanterelles and some creamy wild mushroom pasta, then a seasonal dessert.
After the course we will email you a list of everything we talk about on the day; to help you remember what you have learnt.
The estate also offers homely B&B accommodation, along with charming self-catering cottages for bigger groups. If you would like to make this course into a weekend away in this beautiful part of the country, then we have the following packages available:
Just the foraging course, this will include everything mentioned above.
Overnight stay on Friday 30th August, this will include everything mentioned above with the inclusion of 1 night’s accommodation, foraging talks and drinks with Marlow from 8pm, plus breakfast the next morning.
Weekend stay, to include the same as the above with the addition of a Saturday night stay and breakfast on Sunday morning. There is no additional foraging but this package will allow you some time to explore this vast, stunning estate for yourself, and hopefully put your new found knowledge to good use.
